2014 Nedbank Cup quarterfinal

Kaizer Chiefs v SuperSport United

12 April 2014, 15h00

FNB Stadium

Defending Champions Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United will meet in the quarterfinal of the 2014 Nedbank Cup at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 12 April 2014, kick-off at 15h00.

Chiefs edged Black Leopards 1-0 (National First Division) and FC Buffalo 2-1 (SAFA Second Division) in the Last 32 and 16 respectively to reach the last 8.

Coach Baxter told kaizerchiefs.com that he will continue with the rotation of his squad as his Team has been involved in a tight schedule this season,

"We have had a challenge this season. We will select a Team that we think will do well to win the tie. The players that we select will have fresh legs to take on their opponents. We cannot have the same players doing the job with this schedule, we need some fresh legs,"

About his preparations:

"In Cup competition there's no second chance. We have to deal with the challenges as they come. We have no luxury of preparing the Team adequately. We are coming from a recoup and held a light training session with the other group. This afternoon we held a prematch training to get some of the players up to speed. Mainly we have been working on getting the atmosphere in the Team right. After a defeat in the last game we have to get the players in the right frame of mind,"

How's this season so far compared with the last season:

"This season we have to rotate the players a lot more than last season. Players had to be rotated a lot more because of the schedule of games. Everybody had a chance to come in and out of the Team and that made a difference in terms of the impact. Last season we changed one or two players and those players would come in and make an impact,"

His players:

"Knowledge Musona didn't make it past the late fitness test. His injury is still vague but the doctors will continue to examine him. Morgan Gould is ruled out due to suspension after he accumulated four yellow cards,"

About the opponents:

“SuperSport United play good football. They have faced a similar challenge with us regarding the fixtures. SuperSport have had a fair share of the disappointing results this season but of late they have clawed their way back in the top bracket of the league. It is going to be a tight affair," added Baxter

Amakhosi and Matsatsantsa have met several times in cup competitions over the years, and their last such meeting was in the final of the Nedbank Cup in 2013. A goal from Bernard Parker handed Chiefs a 1-0 victory and Chiefs lifted the Cup.

That victory was Chiefs’ seventh in 11 cup games against SuperSport (who have won the other four). The teams have never gone as far as a penalty shootout and no less than five of their cup matches have been in a final – in that respect the Soweto side leads three wins to two.

In all, the teams have meet in 58 league and cup matches since 1990 when SuperSport were still known as Pretoria City. The head-to-head record is incredibly close, with 23 wins for Chiefs versus 22 wins for United (and the remaining 13 matches ending in draws).

Tickets can be purchased at Computicket and Shoprite Checkers countrywide at R40 for adults and R10 for children under the age of 12.

Kickoff is at 15:00.
