Absa PREMIERSHIP
Bidvest Wits v Kaizer Chiefs
Bidvest Stadium
Wednesday 23 April 2014
19h30 kick-off
Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs will meet in an already sold out Absa Premiership clash at Bidvest Stadium. This anticipated mouthwatering clash will take place on Wednesday, 23 April 2014, kick-off at 19h30.
Coach Baxter remained confident ahead of the clash taking place at the Wits University (Johannesburg) sports grounds. Baxter expressed a cautious optimism looking at the clash:
"Foremost, Wits is a competitive team. They have a good Coach and combative players. Our mental strength will be vital in this game," said Baxter.
Chiefs returned to winning ways in the league when they defeated Polokwane City 2-0 away in their last outing.
"We have to mobilise all of the energy left in our tank to win the game. We have to run out all the remaining games with the same spirit that has carried us up to this far," commented Baxter.
The Soweto giants have claimed 26 points from their 13 away matches so far this season. The Amakhosi are placed second on the Absa Premiership log with 55 points from 26 matches.
"We are at the stage where we cannot look back now. We have gone through a tough situation and doing as much as we did this far and retaining our Championship will have far surpassed our expectations."
In head-to-head stats, Wits and Chiefs have met in 55 league matches since 1985. The Amakhosi have 27 wins compared to 10 for the Clever Boys, while 18 matches have been drawn.
Wits have won just two of their 28 home matches against Chiefs, suffering 16 defeats in the process.
"The players have showed good character in the previous game. We are still having injuries to Kgotso Moleko and Knowledge Musona is still under medical examination," added Baxter.
When the teams met earlier this season, Amakhosi claimed a 2-1 home win thanks to goals from Nkhatha and Majoro.
