ABSA Premiership

University of Pretoria v Kaizer Chiefs

Tuesday, 6 May 2014

Mbombela Stadium

19:30

Kaizer Chiefs will be travelling to Nelspruit on Tuesday night to play the unpredictable University of Pretoria, “Tuks” in the penultimate Absa Premiership league match of the season. Kick-off for all the PSL matches this Tuesday is at 19:30.

Coach Baxter looked at the game ahead of the tricky clash taking place on the eve of the day South Africans go to the Elections.

How do you approach the game with little chance of winning the league?

“Foremost, we will be playing our normal way. And our normal way is playing to the utmost best of our abilities as professionals. As for the chances of winning the league, in this situation, you saw what happened in the other leagues overseas. The results can go either way in the game of football. We will fight fiercely for every point on offer,” said Baxter.

And the disappointing exit from the Nedbank Cup over the weekend?

“We have been disappointed by the results lately. There are a few matches that we should have won recently. We will have to play on and work hard to get the results in the next two games. For as long mathematically or otherwise the league is not declared yet, we will play on to win our games,” commented Baxter.

The players’ availability?

“It is a difficult one as you will know by now that assessing the players has been a challenge in this schedule. Maluleka, Mathoho and Gaxa are nursing an assortment of injuries while Nkhatha will be rested. We wanted to rest more players but we want to remain serious contenders and also we would like to maintain our shape,” said Baxter.

About Tuks as opponents?

“Tuks are a hard working team that you cannot afford to underestimate. Steve (Coach Barker) preaches competitiveness to his players. That’s how they are, competitive and organised. They have given us a tough time in the past and we will have to bring our all to beat them,” said Baxter.

Tuks are lying 5th from the bottom while the Amakhosi occupy 2nd spot on the log.

In head-to-head stats, Chiefs and University of Pretoria have had just three previous League meetings, two of which took place last season.

Last season Tuks took four points off the champions, drawing 1-1 away and winning 1-0 at home on the final day of the last season. This season Chiefs beat Tuks by 1 – 0, thanks to Musona who scored the only goal of the match.

Tickets for the match are sold at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers for R50 Adults and R20 for children accompanied by adults. The gates will be opened at 16:30 and kickoff is at 19:30.
