The Preview: Chiefs vs. Bidvest Wits

The Amakhosi will start their MTN8 defence with a fixture against unpredictable Bidvest Wits University at Rand Stadium on Tuesday, 04 August 2009.

The Glamour Boys won the lucrative trophy with a style last season beating Mamelodi Sundowns in front of a packed Absa Stadium in Durban but that will all be forgotten when they take the field against Johannesburg neighbours Wits.

Thomas “Roadblock” Sweswe who joined the Naturena based side in June told kaizerchiefs.com that they will not be taking Bidvest Wits lightly when the two sides meet on Tuesday.

“We do not know much about them and they have been following our games as we got to play top opposition,” said the Zimbabwean international.

“Personally, I am looking forward to playing my first official game for game for the Club and it does not come better than Tuesday night as we start to defend the trophy we won last season. I was not here and I want to be part of the team working towards defending this title. We have worked very hard since we started early June and now we have to show what we have learnt during the preseason tournaments we have played,” he said.

The soft speaking defender said he had not yet given his countryman Bidvest Wits goalkeeper, Energy Murambadoro a call, “I will talk to him after the game. We are very good friends and we play together in the national team but we will put that aside when we play them on Tuesday night,” he said with confidence.

Sweswe who is not a stranger to these shores having featured a couple of seasons ago for Manning Rangers told kaizerchiefs.com that he was settling very well in Johannesburg having moved in mid June from Zimbabwe where he was playing for Dynamos.

“It’s all has been good and I have enjoyed every minute since my arrival here. We have been working very hard though at training and our preseason form showed that we are on a right track in preparations for the upcoming season” he concluded.
