Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United will be meeting for the 15th time on Saturday, 14 September 2013 when they square up in the Absa Premiership clash at FNB Stadium.

Kickoff for the game is at 20h15.

Matches between the two sides have been tight over the years with Amakhosi winning five times while Maritzburg United currently under former Kaizer Chiefs Coach, Ernst Middendorp have won four times with five matches ending in draws.

The last four matches between the two sides have produced three draws and a loss for the Glamour Boys. Last season both matches produced draws with Maritzburg United equalising in the 97th minute to cancel Lehlohonolo Majoro’s strike.

The Amakhosi have not had the best start in this current campaign collecting four points after three games and captain, Itumeleng Khune has called on his teammates to “double their efforts” ahead of the game against Maritzburg United who are currently lying just below Chiefs in 10th position in the log.

“We have not done well and we definitely need to double our efforts and turn things around,” said Itumeleng Khune who will be looking to keep the opposition strikers at bay this weekend.

“We need to win this game to send a strong message to everyone following our slow start. We need to regain the respect as defending champions. We are expecting a difficult match against Maritzburg United. They have given us problems in the past and they will not be different this coming Saturday.”

Khune said he was also ready to welcome his former teammate, Arthur Bartman to FNB Stadium. Bartman, who rejoined the Glamour Boys back in 2009/2010 season is returning to FNB Stadium as Goalkeeper Coach at Maritzburg United having left Chiefs at the end of last season.

“We had great time together while he was here. I learnt a lot from him and he was a role model to us as younger players. He earned respect from us as his teammates and Technical Team for the kind of person he is on and off the field. I have no doubt that he will succeed in his new endeavour.”

Khune who was coached by Ernest Middendorp as a teenager in the first team said he was also looking forward to meeting his former coach; “I think he is one of the reasons they have done so well and he will also be motivated to win on Saturday.

Our focus though is on our objectives ahead of this game. We want to win the game and start climbing the log as we are currently outside the top eight which is not good at all,” added Khune.
