Kaizer Chiefs is currently in the third position on the log with 44 points, they will be looking at closing the gap between themselves and log leaders Supersport United as well as Orlando Pirates. United and Pirates also face each other tonight at Loftus stadium.
Chiefs have won 29 times against Sundowns in 47 league matches since 1985. Amakhosi are on a high, following an inspiring win against Bay United early this month while their opponents are still trying to recovering from shock. Sundowns were defeated by relegation-threatened Thanda Royal Zulu and draw unconvincingly against Vita (DRC) in the CAF Cup last weekend.
Following a historic day where millions of South Africans had an opportunity to cast their votes for the fourth democratic elections, attention will this evening turn to the Absa Premiership. The Chiefs vs. Sundowns game is regarded by many as one of the top fixtures in the Premiership.
“Chiefs vs. Sundowns is one of the top games in the Premiership and like I said a week ago, it gets the blood boiling not only for the supporters but for everyone involved,” said a relaxed Muhsin Ertugral hours before the game.
The Turk admitted to kaizerchiefs.com that the league is currently not in his control but with Chiefs having an outside chance, they have to continue winning their games to put a pressure on log leaders.
“We have come here with one objective which is to win the game. The lads have worked very hard in the past couple of weeks and tonight they know that they have to put smiles on Kaizer Chiefs faithful that had stood behind the team in what has been a difficult season,”
“I would have loved to have Jeffrey Ntuka fit for this game but we do have Wayne Matle who did the business for us when we played Bay United." said Ertugral.
Ibe Zito (Ogbonna) who is on long term injury, Thabang Rooi who is down with flu and Reneilwe Letsholonyane will miss the game but everyone else available for selection.”
“We are not reading anything on our opponents (Mamelodi Sundowns) results coming to this game. This will be a different ball game all together and a good advert of South African football,” concluded Ertugral.
Meanwhile Public Relations Manager, Siyabulela Makunga revealed to kaizerchiefs.com that Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Club will be doing supporters recruitment at Phantsula Bytes, Mega City in uMlazi on Thursday afternoon.
