The Amakhosi have dominated this fixture having won 26 times in 49 games since inception of the PSL. Swallows have managed to win 10 times while 13 games have ended in a draw.
In this corresponding fixture last season, Swallows managed to beat Chiefs twice but Public Relations Manager, Thebe Mohatle told kaizerchiefs.com on Wednesday morning that, ‘previous records will be thrown out of the window on Wednesday night’.
“This is a different ball game and previous games count for nothing,” said the ever upbeat Mohatle.
“Our focus is on doing well in each and every game. The team has been playing well lately and we would like to continue when we meet Swallows tonight (Wednesday night). They have good players in their squad and we will need to be at our best to contain them,” said Mohatle.
“It will be crucial that we win the game against Swallows to climb the league table. The game being a Soweto derby should bring the old memories of the 70s when the two sides used to contest at Orlando Stadium. I can think of the likes of Teenage Dladla, Wagga Wagga Lekoebe, Malombo Lechaba, Trevor Mthimkhulu on the Chiefs side and Swallows then had equally talented players like Congo Malebane, Happy Cow Mnkomo, Joel Mnini and many others.”
Kaizer Chiefs faithful have been coming out in numbers in support of the team something that has not gone unnoticed at the Club’s headquarters in Naturena, “We are expecting our passionate supporters to once again rally behind the team like they did when they ‘took over’ Super Stadium against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend. The vibe in the team is currently on a high and this is demonstrated by the way the team has been performing on the field of play,” he said.
Gates open 16h00.
Tickets are on sale at Shoprite and Computicket outlets countrywide.
