Platinum Stars (1) 2 (S Mthembu 9’, Ng’ambi 59’)
Kaizer Chiefs 0
Platinum Stars beat Kaizer Chiefs by 2-0 in the Absa Premiership clash at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg on Wednesday night.
Coach Stuart Baxter expressed his views after another disappointing away trip to the North West Province,
"When you play for a big club like Chiefs a defeat is not welcomed. It happens with every big Club around the world, big Clubs don't want to lose games," commented Baxter.
"We lost to a good opponent at their home ground. As our tight schedule dictates, we have to rotate the players. We found it difficult to find the rhythm at the start of the game. They scored an early goal and from thereon they had something to hang on to," said Baxter.
"We tried to get back into the game and conceded the 2nd goal at the time when we were creating chances. Their 2nd goal was followed by an injury to 'Tower' (Mathoho) which was another blow. We were somewhat reduced to 10-men from thereon," said Baxter.
"From there we dominated the game in terms of chances but we were not able to convert that into goals.
If we got the goal earlier, we would have come out with something from the game," commented Baxter.
"We were disappointed when our penalty appeal was turned down with 10min to go. Musona was clearly fouled by their goalkeeper but the referee saw it otherwise. Maybe that would have been a turning point in the game. At this stage we have to deal with a taste of a defeat," said Baxter.
"Should we succeed under this heavy schedule it will be an unbelievable performance. We have no training sessions and games come thick and fast. We do not even have time for recuperation, but we will soldier on," commented Baxter.
