AS Vita Club 3 (Mubele 8th, 34th, 46th) - 0 Kaizer Chiefs

Kinshasa -
Kaizer Chiefs ambitions to proceed to the Group Stages of the CAF Champions League were dealt a blow when they went down to AS Vita Club of DRC by 3 - 0. The score line does not do justice in terms of the reflection of the game as Chiefs missed numerous chances during the game.

Coach Baxter was disappointed with the results but sounded optimistic to turn the tables in the 2nd Leg to be played at the FNB Stadium in South Africa next Saturday.

Overall performance of his team:

"The game was level at the start and by the time they scored their first chance we had created about two chances already. Even after they scored their 1st goal it was still an even game. When they scored the 3rd we had to prevent another goal which would have killed the game. Still we had two big chances that we couldn't convert. We will have to hit them with an early goal at home to get back into the game,"

About the result:

"We lost 3 - 0 here and as we have said earlier, with a two legged game, this is the first half. If anyone thinks the tie is over, they must think again. I have been involved in a game in Sweden where we reversed a 5 - 3 score line against Galatasaray by beating them 5 - 1 at home. Football is a funny game,"

Conceded goals:

"We were caught early in the game when we allowed their cross and they scored with an overhead kick. We created a set play which Mashamaite couldn't convert and their counter attack resulted in a shot that Pieterse couldn't hold and they scored with the rebound. We have spoken about critical phases of the game and they scored in the 1st minute of the 2nd half. It then became a matter of keeping the score line at 3 - 0 and trying to reduce that to 3 - 1. We created several chances that we could have converted into goals,"

The conditions away from home:

"We played in an AstroTurf pitch and the heat was unbearable. We will play them at our conditions at home in a normal grass pitch and in front of our supporters. The supporters here were very good and vocal which allowed a good game of football,"

Baxter was adamant that if anyone thought the tie is over, they must watch the 2nd Leg at home.
