Kaizer Chiefs (0) 2 (Lebese 90’, 90+4’)
SuperSport United 0
Coach Stuart Baxter expressed delight at his charges' character following their 2-0 win over SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Speaking at Post Match Press Conference, Baxter said:
Overall impression:
"It was a typical quarterfinal game of a prestigious competition. I'm very happy to reach the semifinals. It was both a relief and jubilation. I am glad we scored two late goals after missing chances in the previous two games."
"The two teams didn't come out to play with the quality that was needed to win a tie."
Chiefs had the upper hand in terms of ball possession:
"I was asked by the pitch side during the post match TV interview about a lot of ball possession and I said that doesn't win games in itself. Cavin (Johnson) has structured his Team well and they were a constant threat. We didn't play with the sort of quality needed to play between the lines to find our way through,"
"We started playing well even before Nkosi came off. Nkosi was making some coupler runs to open spaces and open some pockets for us."
About the overall performance:
"I'm not 100% satisfied with the performance. Especially in the 1st hour. I was not happy with our technical application. Our mental strength was good and we showed that by keeping on going."
Heavy schedule:
"I have said that before. I am on record to say, we have to do what we have to do. I will not bring that in the dressing room, I don't want the boys to feel sorry about themselves. I am happy with our players."
George Lebese scored two goals in the dying minutes to send the Amakhosi flying into the semifinals, and the Chiefs coach lauded Bernard Parker, who came in as a substitute, for playing a vital role in unlocking the SuperSport defensive line.
Baxter was happy with Lebese's brace of goals, "George scored two beautiful goals."
