Kaizer Chiefs were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup semifinal by the determined Bidvest Wits on Saturday. The Amakhosi lost to The Students on penalties in a tightly contested knockout match played in front of a capacity crowd at Bidvest Stadium.

Coach Stuart Baxter did not want to present any excuses following his side's exit from the competition they won in the last season.

About the match?

"We conceded a goal and I thought to warm up 'Shabba' (Siphiwe Tshabalala) so that we can revert to our usual shape. I then saw them playing wide enough and Parker started to use the space very well behind the strikers as we went into the break," said Baxter.

The goals?

"I told the guys to play to win and not to avoid losing. We went back after the break only to concede a 'silly' goal. We also gained from a similar situation when we got the equaliser. We took the game to them but could not break through to get a win. At the end it became a tennis ball game with each side looking for a win. It had to go to penalties and we lost it," commented Baxter.

Any cause of the defeat?

"I do not want to give excuses. We played under a tight schedule for the past 14 weeks and today if we had that little extra energy I am sure we could have won the game, but I don't want to destruct you from Wits, they won the match. Congratulations to Gavin and his Team," conceded Baxter.

Where to now?

"We will now look back and ask ourselves where did that energy go. And if you watched the game today, the lads gave it their all and if anybody would say they let us down, then that's something else. The lads did dig deep in their reserves but that was not enough to win the game," said Baxter.

Baxter confirmed that his side will be looking for maximum points when they play in their last two matches of the league. Chiefs will wrap up the 2013/14 PSL season with matches against TUKS and AmaZulu this week.
