Over sixteen million votes were cast by the supporters to determine the starting eleven for both teams. The match attracted over ninety thousand spectators at the stadium including the millions of people who watched it live on television.

Both teams had an opportunity to take control of the game with Chiefs missing an opportunity to take the lead inside 90min but George Maluleka's penalty kick was denied by the crossbar. This was after George Lebese was fouled by Mahamutsa with referee Victor Gomez pointing to the spot without hesitation.

Siphelele Mthembu made his debut when he came on as a substitute replacing an injured Kingston Nkhatha.

Over a hundred thousand votes were cast during the game resulting in the introduction of Josta Dladla for Katlego Mphela in the 50th minute.
