Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela was upbeat after the squad completed its pre-match training at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday night.
“The lads are looking sharp and motivated for the Champions League assignment,” the coach reflected, while walking off the pitch.
Chiefs are due to face Comoros’ Volcan Club de Moroni in the second leg of the CAF Champions League’s preliminary round at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening, 27 February (kick-off is at 19:30).
Amakhosi beat the Comorian side 4-0 in Moroni two weeks ago.
“Every game has its dynamics,” Komphela looks ahead to the Champions League clash. “We approach the game without looking at the scoreboard. Of course, we will take into consideration that we are leading by four goals and we will take comfort from that. However, we still want to stamp our authority on the match.”
“Teams use different approaches,” Komphela responded to the fact that Volcan de Moroni haven’t arrived as yet in Durban. “Some teams prefer to jet in and out when they play away matches. But, for now, our focus is to be ready for the game.”
Komphela reacted positively when asked about Chiefs players that are injured: “The medical room is cleared and it is just a matter of giving the players that were out time to fully recover. It always takes a bit of time between the stage that a player is no longer injured and for him to be fully match fit again.”
The Champions League encounter between Amakhosi and Volcan de Moroni will not be broadcasted live on TV.
