“We can't continue with the same script of missed chances,” admitted Komphela after the goalless draw against Ajax Cape Town on Saturday night. “Truth be told, we do create chances, but we fail to slot them in.”

Kaizer Chiefs have drawn 11 of their 25 Absa Premiership fixtures played so far this season.

“Foremost, I must also compliment Ajax for their good game plan,” Komphela reflected. “They played a clever game of putting early pressure on our defenders whenever they got possession of the ball. As a result, we couldn’t build-up from the back with ease and we had to look for other options to penetrate them. It often took us too long to find those options.”

“We dealt well with Nathan Paulse,” the Amakhosi coach said. “He is a difficult player to contain, but we managed him very well.”

The draw was the second for Chiefs in the space of a week, having shared the points with Mpumalanga Black Aces four days earlier.

“Our players tried their best to win the match,” Komphela noted. “However, it wasn’t to be. We are back to where we were before this game, another draw. We need to work on our finishing.”

“We plan to try to rectify things for the remaining matches, especially with an eye on next season. We will never lack the motivation, because a Chiefs match is always about more than just the three points. The season is not over until the last game.”
