Stuart Baxter praised his players for their application after claiming an emphatic 2-0 victory over Chippa United in what was a thrilling encounter at Soccer City Complex on Saturday evening.

The win was Chiefs’s fourth of the season in five games in the Absa Premiership in what has been a brilliant start for the boys from Phefeni.

Tefu Mashamaite scored his first goal in the gold and black while substitute, Lehlohonolo ‘Wagga Wagga’ Majoro scored his second goal in two consecutive games.

Chippa United came to the game full of confidence following their first win of the season midweek and created couple of headaches for the hosts.

Baxter was delighted with the application of his players and he told kaizerchiefs.com after the game; “We knew it was going to be a very difficult game. I have seen Chippa United had a game plan coming here, well organised. The Coach (Roger Sikhakhane) got them playing with strategy and their transition was impressive. We knew it was not going to be a walk on the park. We knew we have to play well.

“I am pleased with the three points. I am pleased with the application from the players. Towards the end of first half we gave couple of transitions that created problems for us. Apart from that the only thing I can complain about is that we should have taken our chances and killed the game earlier. Chippa were always in the game and a threat.

“Chippa were resolute at the back and when that happens in a game situation you have to exercise patience and I though the players did a very good job.

“I spoke to the players before the game. I never talk about small teams or big teams and I told the team that every team deserves a level of respect.

Chiefs continue to lead the first quarter with 16 points with two games remaining in the first quarter; “We are pleased with the start and we have done well in the first quarter. The league though is a marathon and there are 24 games to play and the most important thing will be to continue putting a good performance week in week out. The players understand our objective as the team and we will put every effort in ensuring that we achieve that,” added the Baxter.

Meanwhile The Glamour Boys will be hoping to keep the momentum when they host Bloemfontein Celtic in what promises to be thrill-a-minute encounter at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this Saturday, 06 October 2012.
