The Glamour Boys will be looking at clinching the Absa Premiership they successfully defended in 2005 after they won the prestigious trophy in 2004 for the first time in a decade. In 2013, named the season of Reclaiming the Glory, The Glamour Boys rose to the occasion once more and won the pure sterling silver trophy which weighs in at seven kilograms and stands at a height of 66 centimetres and 43 centimetres (at the handles) in width.



Luck deserted the Glamour Boys in 2014, when Mamelodi Sundowns won the title with a two point margin. Chiefs dominated the 2013/14 season where upon at some stage they looked home and dry leading the chasers with thirteen points only to lose crucial points in the end.



At a PSL Press Conference on Tuesday afternoon the league’s CEO Brand de Villiers urged the soccer loving fraternity to brace for what is planned to be an exciting year of football. “It's not about complaining, but making a difference. The stakeholders must hold hands to make this coming season a memorable one. We all have the obligation to make this league one of the best in the World. The supporters must come to the stadium in their numbers to support their favourite teams. Together with the sponsors the PSL and the Clubs have prepared to deliver an entertaining football to the supporters. Soccer is about partnerships the more the support for each other the more we will all grow and become better. The supporters play a crucial part in the game, a real fan will criticise his team, but will still support their team and go to the stadium”



Craig Van Niekerk Absa Group Sponsorship Manager revealed their plans to encourage the fans to come out in their numbers to the stadium. Some of the plans will see the campaign to encourage the supporters to attend the matches. He said, “We have introduced a ‘Re Kaofela’ campaign, which will see custom made buses transporting the fans to the stadium, to create the fan experience and to encourage the supporters to get back to the stadium. We have roped in Lucas Radebe joined by the two home team’s legends to host the bus experience and sit in the stands with the fans watching the best live local football.”



The Glamour Boys have expressed excitement and focus to start with the 2014/15 Absa Premiership.



Kingston Nkhatha said, “We must just approach it the same as we did against Aces. We will remain focused and humble and keep working hard.”



Reneilwe Letsholonyane said, “I think it’s not going to be an easy season, but we are ready for the kickoff against Free State Stars in Qwaqwa. At this stage the teams are a closed book. We will focus on what we do as a team to start by collecting the maximum points.”



Brilliant Khuzwayo said, “We are looking forward to the start of the season. We are looking sharp, and a first win in the first game of the season will inspire us and give us the confidence we need in the marathon of the league.”



Morgan Gould said, “With time, the league is becoming more difficult. We will approach this new season with due respect. We are motivated as a team to get started with the league programme.”



Ivan Bukenya said, “The preparations have gone well during preseason. We had a good game in the MTN8 quarterfinals last weekend and we hope to win our first game of the season. The first game is important to get us going and see how far we are prepared.”



It is all systems go in The Glamour Boys’ camp for the start of the 2014/15 PSL season. Chiefs will open the season on Saturday, 09 August 2014, with a much anticipated and tricky trip to Phuthaditjhaba, in Qwaqwa to visit Free State Stars. The game taking place at the Charles Mopeli Stadium will kickoff at 15:00.



The tickets will be sold at the following points of sale: Bethlehem Club Sport Shop, Koeneng Sport Shop Qwaqwa, Super Spar Setsing, Caltex Garage Phuthaditjhaba, Mangaung BP Garage and Maluti All in One Supermarket.
