AFCON 2015 Qualifier

Score: Sudan 0-3 Bafana Bafana

Date: 05 September 2014

Venue: El Merreikh Stadium

Bafana Bafana got their Afcon 2015 qualifiers campaign off to a good start with a convincing 3 - 0 win over Sudan.

Sibusiso Vilakazi scored a brace of goals and Bongani Ndulula added one goal that saw Shakes Mashaba's side collecting three points away from home.

The Amakhosi speedy and tricky Mandla Masango and lanky towering Erick Mathoho formed part of the victorious Bafana Bafana. We caught up with Masango from the National Team camp.

How was your stay in Sudan?

"We knew what to expect. The food was good but the weather wasn't friendly at all, it was too hot," said Masango.

How was the training and preparation conditions?

"The training was good but the pitch wasn't playable. We told ourselves that at some stage we played on such pitches in our careers, so we just kept on with a positive attitude," said 'Bullet' as he is affectionately known in soccer cycles.

How did you feel when you were named in the starting line-up?

"I felt good to be named in the starting line-up not that I anticipated it or anything like that but I always work hard to be in the starting line-up being selected or not. I'll continue to give my best for both club and country." he said.

How was the stadium vibe on match day?

"The crowd was hostile at first but after we scored they started applauding us. It was tough, the pitch wasn't good for our type football, but we adapted well and made it work," continued Masango.

Sudan as opponents?

"They are not a bad side tactically, because they kept piling the pressure in the first half. We knew that they will come at us, but we kept our shape and stuck to the game plan which worked wonders for us," said Masango.

A convincing 3-0 away from home - how was the dressing room after the final whistle?

"We worked hard as a collective to get the necessary result which was what we needed to start our Afcon campaign. Everyone was so happy and delighted about the win. There was joy and happiness in the change room," concluded an elated and inspired Mandla 'Bullet' Masango.

Bafana Bafana will host Nigeria on Wednesday night at the Cape Town Stadium, with kick-off at 20h00.
