The off-season provides the players with an opportunity to rest after a hectic PSL season. kaizerchiefs.com followed some of the players at their respective off-season activities and met up with midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi at his home base in Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal. According to Nkosi there will be no resting for him following the 2013/14 season where he gained limited game time and his Team finishing uncharacteristically without silverware.
“I can sum up the season as the kind of season that makes one to look forward to the next season. I am busy analysing the information from my performances and working out a plan to do better next season. My season was interrupted by the injuries despite making some contribution to the Team when I was called up to play. I am not happy with my contribution during the past season. I have my back against the wall now. I will not rest during this off-season period. I cannot rest, I have to work hard to prepare for a better upcoming season,” said Nkosi.
Nkosi revealed that he will be hosting the Annual Siyabonga Nkosi Youth Festival from 8 – 16 June 2014. The event is aligned with the Youth Month Celebrations that will be happening across South Africa to Commemorate the 16th of June 1976. The headline of the Festival is the soccer tournament that will see 16 youth teams from the Amajuba District Municipality taking part in a knockout competition. Part of the highlight of the Festival will see the Kaizer Chiefs U19 Development Team playing against a selection Team from Amajuba District Municipality. The Festival will take place at Amajuba College Stadium, in Newcastle (KZN).
Nkosi appeared in 23 league and Cup games during the 2013/14 season, contributing 3 goals in the process. Nkosi was rewarded at the Kaizer Chiefs Players’ Awards scooping the Player of the Month Award for December 2013 and pocketing R10 000 courtesy of main sponsor Vodacom.
