Kaizer Chiefs face an uphill battle when they travel to Ivory Coast this weekend to face Asec Mimosas in the playoffs of the CAF Confederation Cup. Chiefs trail Asec Mimosas by 1 – 2 goals going into the 2nd leg of the match. The 1st Leg ended with a 2 – 1 win for the Abidjan based Asec Mimosas.

kaizerchiefs.com caught up with the lanky midfielder Lucky Baloyi ahead of the trip to the city dubbed as the economic city of Ivory Coast, Abidjan.

You are going to Asec Mimosas trailing by 2 – 1 from the 1st Leg?

“It is another challenge that we have to face. It is going to be a difficult trip to Ivory Coast as they are leading. We will go there knowing that we have to score goals and prevent them from scoring for us to proceed to the group stages. I think we are prepared to win the game on Sunday.”

How do you see your contribution in the Team going to the game?

“I have been working hard despite spending most of the time on the bench this season. I am happy that the Coach has afforded me game time last week after a long period on the side-lines. Remember that this season I was also affected by an injury which also affected my contribution in the Team.”

What happened in the 1st Leg at Dobsonville Stadium?

“I think their mind games defeated us. They played time-wasting tactics which led to their first goal. They knew if they interrupt the play they will be able to catch us off-guard. Their second goal in the last minute was a lapse in concentration from our side. We let them score at a very critical phase of the game. We have reviewed all our mistakes and we will rectify all of that in Ivory Coast.”

What will you do differently in Abidjan?

“We are prepared both mentally and physically. We will respect them as we usually do with every opponent that we come across. They are not a bad Team at all but we want to win the game. We are all fired up for the game and looking forward to it.”

Kaizer Chiefs will travel to the third-largest French-speaking city in the world, Abidjan on Friday 25th April 2014.
