The Amakhosi’s lanky defender Erick ‘Tower’ Mathoho expressed confidence at their chances of beating University of Pretoria in the Absa Premiership encounter to be played on the Day of Reconciliation, 16th December 2013.
The Venda born defender has seen most of his contribution as a sub before he got an opportunity to return to the starting line up in the past two games for Amakhosi. ‘Tower’ started in the previous two victories for the Amakhosi, against Polokwane City (4 – 1) and Free State Stars (2 – 0).
“We have been playing well this season and it is just that luck has not been on our side in terms of goals. I have been impressed by my fellow defenders and they have been doing a great job. Sitting on the bench has not been a problem for me as still make a contribution as squad member. I continue to work hard so that when I am called upon to do duty, I am ready and do my utmost best to impress the Technical Team,” commented quiet but surely 'Tower’.
‘Tower’ who has scored two goals this season still remembers the game when Chiefs lost to Tuks when they were on the verge of winning the 2012/13 Championship. Chiefs and University of Pretoria have had just two previous league meetings. Tuks took four points off the champions, drawing 1-1 away and winning 1-0 at home on the final day of the league campaign.
“They are no longer rookies. They nearly spoilt our party at the end of last season. They demonstrated their stripes in their maiden year last season that they are a team to watch. We will approach them on the Day or Reconciliation knowing they are a capable side and deserve respect. As we have been doing though, we will focus on what we do best. We have been working very hard in the past few days and I think on any day we can give a good account of ourselves against any of the opponents we meet,” said Tower, an International player with 8 Caps for Bafana Bafana.
Tickets for the game are on sale at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers nationwide, at a cost of R40 for adults and R10 for scholars.
