“We are in a good space after a good win on Wednesday,” says Ernst Middendorp as he looks ahead to this afternoon’s encounter against the Citizens. “We have moved on and had to address a few issues and I’m optimistic we’re ready for the match. We are playing against a City team that’s not predictable. That makes it a tough match.”
Kaizer Chiefs tackle Cape Town City this afternoon in a 15:30 kick-off of the Absa Premiership match. This is after conquering Highlands Park (3-0) in a midweek match.
“It is going to be a tight affair given this stage of the league,” adds Middendorp. “It’s at this stage that the teams at the lower end of the league fight hard to move up while teams at the top want to consolidate their position. They have collected four points in their past two matches, it shows we’re up against a resurgent City.
“One thing for sure, they have quality in their squad, make no mistake about that. We are in celebration of our 50th Anniversary, which means we have to deal with the players in terms of keeping the focus. I noticed some lapses in concentration at the end of the game, but I think we discussed that with the team.”
Confirmed absentees include Khama Billiat, Bruce Bvuma and Lazalous Kambole, all due to an assortment of injuries.
“We have options and the players are ready to do the business for us. I’m happy with the preparations. The players have responded very well during our preparation,” the German concluded.
Tickets for the match are sold at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers at R40.
