“The most important thing at this stage of the league is the three points,” commented Steve Komphela after watching his side beat Free State Stars thanks to a last-minute headed goal by Teenage Hadebe. “Three points are all that matters.”
“I’m happy with the resilience and courage that we displayed tonight,” the Kaizer Chiefs coach added. “The wet conditions complicated the flow of the game but we kept going.
“The slippery pitch made the game difficult. Their goalie did well to keep us at bay with several good saves, no wonder that he was selected as the Man of the Match. Bernard Parker’s bicycle kick and Leonardo Castro’s header were notable chances.
“About the goal, it is great to have players that can give you a goal at set-pieces. We continued to knock on the door of the Free State Stars defence and it eventually opened. I saw Teenage praying before the corner was taken. I was not surprised when he scored. We wanted to win the game.”
We are happy with this win. It wasn't easy but we got what we wanted, the three points.”
“We are going back to prepare for Chippa,” said Komphela referring to the upcoming home fixture at FNB Stadium against Chippa United. “We want to accumulate as many points as possible.”
“We are still in the chasing pack,” concluded, while Komphela looking at Amakhosi’s third position on the Absa Premiership log. “I have said it before - we will remain focussed until the final whistle of the season.”
Chiefs will host Chippa United at FNB Stadium on Saturday 7 April. Kick-off is at 15:00.
