When he attended an SAA Supa8 press conference along with Miguel Gamondi of Mamelodi Sundowns, Super Sport United coach Pitso Mosimane and a representative of Moroka Swallows, as their coach Gavin Hunt was unable to attend the briefing.

The Chiefs coach had to place Chiefs next opposition in the form of Wits University on the back burner, as he faced a charged up media briefing around The Amakhosi’s Supa8 semi-final against Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows.

Chiefs and Swallows will square off at the ABSA Stadium in Durban on Sunday in what is a repeat of the 2004 SAA Supa8 Semi – Final, when Chiefs defeated Swallows in an explosive affair thanks to a Collins Mbesuma goal.

Moroka Swallows General Manager Sipho Xulu reaffirmed his team’s intentions for Sunday’s game saying “the venue might be the same, the day might be the same, the kick off time might be the same, the competition is at the same stage as it was in 2004 but the result will be different on Sunday”.

Ernst Middendorp the Amakhosi coach speaking about Sunday’s SAA Supa8 match up, was quick to quell talk of a revenge bout, either from his end or Swallows side to taking into account that the Dube birds have a number of former Chiefs players in their squad.

As he explained “I really do not think that it is fair on any of the Chiefs players who are now in Swallows for the media to bill the game as a revenge match, there is no need to put the guys under any additional pressure.

All of the Chiefs players who are at Swallows are all quality players it is unfortunate that we did not have the space to keep some of them, but that is the way the game of football goes.

The Chiefs coach also said of the game, “The ABSA Stadium in Durban usually brings out the best in us, we won the ABSA Cup Final there recently the pitch is for the most part in a good condition.

Sunday’s games is a Cup Final form is out of the window and it is ninety minutes which we must come through as the victors, it will be tough but we are ready for the challenge”.

In other developments relating to the semi-final the PSL and sponsors South African Airways are urging fans to purchase their tickets early for Sunday’s game, as ticket sales for the game have been moving along swiftly.

A sizeable crowd is expected in Durban on Sunday judging from the fact that close to 20 000 tickets had been sold for the game by the close of business on Tuesday. Ntambi Ravele of the PSL further added that due to construction taking place at the Kings Park Soccer Stadium, alternate Parking arrangements for fans attending the game have been made. Supporters could use the Kings Park Athletics Stadium, Kings Park Swimming Pool or the Stables parking facilities.

Tickets for the match which the sponsors South African Airways are expecting to be sold out shortly are presently on sale at all Computicket outlets, and Shoprite Checkers outlets, ticket sales from the latter establishments have not been affected by the strike action undertaken by certain employees of the Supermarket Chain.

Tickets are R20 for the game, which Kick’s Off at 15h15 in Durban on Sunday, at the ABSA Stadium.
