His ascent to reclaim the title of the midfield general was complete when he struck what only can be described as a wonder goal for The Amakhosi in the Telkom Charity Cup against Orlando Pirates. That game saw Tinashe regain his form and he has once again been able to establish himself as one of the PSL’s toughest midfield commanders.
He has done a good job so far in a central defensive midfield role for Chiefs. The Zimbabwean international’s resurgence has in a large part been thanks to the return of Muhsin Ertugral as it was when Ertugral was in his first spell with the club more than five years ago that Nengomasha, made his debut back in April 2002 against Amazulu.
Tinashe has thus far in the season played in all three of the Amakhosi’s league games, and has been on the field of play for all 270 minutes that Chiefs have been in action in the PSL during the 2007-08 season. He is hoping to get more playing time on Sunday against SuperSport United, which is a game that Tinashe is looking forward to as he believes that winning the game will assist Chiefs in keeping up with the front- runners - the likes of Bloemfontein Celtic at the top of the table.
Gift wrapped for the coach
Tinashe has not held back in his praise of coach Muhsin Ertugral in helping him find his feet once again, and he would like to thank the coach for allowing him to regain his confidence and form by helping The Amakhosi come away from Tshwane with a win.
While the coach will be celebrating his 48th birthday on Saturday Tinashe and his team mates would like to gift wrap three points for the coach, with a victory on Sunday against SuperSport.
“For me on a personal note, Muhsin Ertugral has helped re-instill belief in myself and in my abilities, he has also helped me go through a kind of renaissance. Over the past couple of months that he has been around, I have been able to improve in a number of aspects of my game, particularly in one on one situations and my birthday present to him will be three points from Sunday’s game.”
Excellent Formula
While Chiefs have won just one of their three league outings this season, Tinashe is excited at the way the team's overall performances have been, and he believes that the strong bond that exists within the team have aided the guys in being able to put their best foot forward when they go out on the field of play.
"Everybody has gelled well so far through the opening league games and the pre-season, each guy has confidence in the other ones ability”.
The confidence that the team have in each other, according to Tinashe, has meant that they have the correct recipe for success.
“When a team wants to play with each other it means that they want to be on the field together and thereafter success on the field will come. Right now the defense are doing their job as we are yet to concede a goal in open play. The midfield are being creative and the strikers have been getting the right kind of balls in the last third so I have a good feeling about the way things will go for us in the next few months”.
United for SuperSport challenge
Whereas SuperSport United have been Chiefs' nemesis for the past couple of seasons, Tinashe is of the opinion that The Amakhosi are on the right track towards over turning their recent run of losses to United and feels that while it has always been said that SuperSport are a tough proposition, so are Chiefs on present form.
“It is always been told to us that SuperSport are a strong and tough team, while I do respect their achievements and the talents of their individual players it has to be said that we are also a much improved team and they need to be wary of the fact that we are hungry for success and we want to do well this season”.
