Despite the fact that Chiefs would have been out of action for around a fortnight when they play their next match which is likely to be a Nedbank Cup Round of 16 clash against BIDVest Wits at the start of next month, midfielder Siyabulela Songwiqi believes the break will not distract Chiefs from keeping sight of their objectives of ending the season with more silverware.

“If you want something badly enough you will work as hard as you have to for it” explained Songwiqi who will be celebrating his 24th birthday on the 17th of next month, he then went on to add.

“At the moment we using this free time because of the international break to train as well as get as much rest as we can because after this we going to have a tough programme so this break is good as it helps us to recuperate.

Through this we know that we cannot lose sight of the bigger prize which is the league championship and the Nedbank Cup, when you have a break like this you need a lot of added individual discipline. We are a professional team and we have the ability and professionalism to stay focused and disciplined.”

The Eastern Cape born Songwiqi is enjoying the time off as he also feels that it has given him the chance to spend time with his family, “during the season generally our schedule is such that our free time is limited.

So now with some added time off I have been spending it with my family, I am fortunate in that although I am from Port Elizabeth I have my wife living with me in Johannesburg. My family are very supportive of me which has been very helpful for me in my career.”

In concluding his discussion with kaizerchiefs.com Songwiqi insisted that the Amakhosi will not be prioritizing games and that their only aim is to win each one of their remaining league and cup matches for the season.

“We might be having games left against Ajax Cape Town and Sundowns but to us they are just part of the programme, we cannot look at any team and say that this game is more important for us. Of these games we want to win every point, and the way to do that is to be serious about winning every game.”
