The Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced on Tuesday that national airline company South African Airways (SAA) would officially become the headline sponsor of the Top 8 tournament to take place in the 2003/2004 season.

The Tournament will officially be called "Super 8 Soccer Tournament".

PSL CEO Trevor Phillips said he was delighted that the national airline, after its long association of over 8 years as the official airline of the Premier Soccer League, has decided to take soccer to a new altitude.

The involvement of the national airline will inject new life into the sport of soccer and is a perfect fit for the PSL’s new vision of delivering quality entertainment in a safe and secure environment.

The Super 8 Tournament dates are as follows:


Round 1 9th/10th August 2003


Round 2 16th/17th August 2003


Semifinals 30th/31st August 2003


Final 20th/21st September 2003

The prize money for the competition is as follows:


Winner R1,2 million


Runner-up R700,000


Losing Semifinalist R400,000


4 First-round Losers R200,000 each

In addition there will be R50,000 in prize money for players awards.
