For the second weekend in succession the Amakhosi will face another of the teams in the top five of the league standings, a week after defeating top of the table Mamelodi Sundowns in their last Absa Premiership Fixture, Chiefs travel to Cape Town to face fourth placed Ajax this evening.

Victory over Ajax can see Chiefs claim the top spot on the league standings and move two points above league leaders Sundowns who will only be in action on Saturday evening when they host Maritzburg United.

The history.

After the formation of Ajax Cape Town in 1999 Chiefs struggled against the Urban Warriors and lost four of the first five league matches contested by the teams and it was not till the second league game between the teams in the 2001 – 2002 season that Chiefs managed to record a league win over the Ajax.

Since then Chiefs have pretty much dominated proceedings against the Urban Warriors The Amakhosi also have a decent away record against them and have not lost a league game away to Ajax since October 2001. During the corresponding fixture last season Chiefs won the game 3 – 0.

Recent form

Chiefs have won their last three games putting behind them back to back loses which they suffered in November and December to Vasco Da Gama and Free State Stars, with victories over Wits, Aces and Sundowns in successive games Chiefs have managed to get themselves back in the title race. The Amakhosi last managed to win four league games in succession during the 2003 – 2004 season.

Ajax managed to overcome a recent lean spell of their own after drawing and losing to Golden Arrows and Sundowns respectively they recorded a 2 – 1 win over Amazulu in their last league outing.

Missing out.

Man of the match from the victory over Sundowns defender Valery Nahayo and winger Siphiwe Tshabalala who laid on the match for Kaizer Motaung Junior will not be available for duty against the Urban Warriors as they are both suspended for the match. For Ajax striker Thembinkosi Fanteni their top scorer this season with five goals in league action is likewise suspended for the game.
