Erick ‘Tower’ Mathoho tore a ligament in his ankle while playing for South Africa’s Under-23s against Denmark at the recent 2016 Rio Olympics. The defender went to see a medical specialist on Monday, 15 August.

“We are waiting for the final report on the ankle,” confirms Kaizer Chiefs’ medical department, “thereafter a decision will be taken on how best to treat the ankle.”

The medical team also provided the latest on Siphiwe Tshabalala’s return to full fitness: “’Shabba’ should be back in full training in the next couple of days.”

The midfielder picked up a knee injury towards the end of last season.

New signee Keagan Buchanan arrived at Chiefs from Bloemfontein Celtic in July with a knee injury.

There’s good news though, according to the medical department: “Keagan is training and he’s on track to be back to full training with the squad towards the end of August.”

Togolese striker Camaldine Abraw, however, is ruled out for the 2016/17 season.

“Abraw had a successful operation on his knee,” the medical department commented. “The full rehabilitation will take about nine months.”
