“Erick Mathoho reported back to the team this morning after being released by the South African national team due to an injury.” This is written in a report from Kaizer Chiefs’ Medical Team.
The tall defender, nicknamed ‘Tower’, sustained a shoulder injury during Bafana Bafana’s 3-1 loss on the road to Mauritania on Saturday.
“His right shoulder popped out of the socket,” continues the medical report. “Mathoho had a scan yesterday, which showed an injury to the muscle and the joint. He will be treated conservatively and his progress will be closely monitored.”
Meanwhile, Daniel Cardoso saw the doctor on Monday. It was decided that another X-Ray of his shin bone will be taken next week. Should this clear the defender, he will return to the field for training.
David Zulu had surgery on his ankle on Friday to repair a ligament. “He is currently resting at home,” it is reported in the medical report. “He will be back at the Village next week to start his rehabilitation process.”
There is good news about Simphiwe Mtsweni, as he no longer needs to wear his moon boot. Mtsweni will see the doctor again on 21 September, after which he will likely be able to start running on the pitch.
Philani Cele is still undergoing rehabilitation. He will be out of his moon boot in about two weeks’ time.
Goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo, who recently broke two bones in his hand, is recovering well and has started light ‘goalkeeper’ training.
Chiefs travel to Polokwane for an Absa Premiership assignment against SuperSport United on Saturday (kick-off is at 18:00).
