It was a day to remember for the kids of Leamogetswe Safety Home, who had an opportunity to play in a five-a-side game with Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs star, Siphiwe Tshabalala.
Also gracing the event to celebrate the day with the kids were celebrities and personalities, Thami Mqolo Zolisa Xhaluva, Siphiwe Mtshali (all from Generations), Jo Ann Reyneke (Muvhango), Mava Scott (Department of Water Affairs), Obed Nhlapo (Kaizer Chiefs Management), Mthetho Tshemese (Soul City), Mfundisi Mabalane (Show me Your Number) and many more.
“The main objective for me to celebrate my birthday with the institution is to put smiles on the children's faces and I am sure some of them will not be able to sleep, having had an opportunity to pit their skills against arguably Bafana’s best player during the World Cup.
“The day was also to heed to a call from the Nelson Mandela Foundation for people to devote time in assisting communities near them. I am grateful of the relationship I have with the institution as it gives me a platform to give back.
"This would not have been possible without the support from my friends, who share the same vision as me, to help out where we can. I can also say the same with my sponsors, who came on board once more to donate a kit and balls to the orphanage,” said the visibly delighted Zibeko, speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Monday.
Thami Mqolo, who also attended the event, said it was a day well spent. “I was here last year, together with Luthando, Brenda Ngxoli and Itumeleng Khune, and I know we will be back again next year to celebrate this birthday with the people here.
"This for us (actors) is an opportunity to interact with the children who always see us on television. We talk to them about our experiences and what they need to do to achieve their dreams,” he said.
Food and clothing items were donated on the day, while Siphiwe Mtshali, known for his role as Zamani on Generations, performed a song to cap what had been a wonderful afternoon for the children.
