Tshabalala set up one goal and scored a brace as Chiefs ran out 4-0 winners in the Nedbank Cup over the Students who were the defending Cup champions, is now looking to carry on by lifting the Amakhosi to another strong showing when they face United.
“Helping the team win a game is always my aim, we played well and everything worked out for us against Wits, our confidence is up after that performance and it has definitely boosted our morale. We have an advantage with that win and it is up to us to carry on and play in the same way when we face SuperSport on Wednesday.”
Tshabalala was particularly pleased with his showing in the game, “you want to help your team and it was great to have contributed in such a way to the win. We expected a difficult and physical game against Wits and to be able to come through such a match with a good victory says a lot about the team. Scoring was definitely a plus for me.”
Chiefs had not kept a clean sheet in their previous five games league and cup and Shabba praised the Chiefs backline for their performance against the students, “like I said it was a tough game and a strong performance from the back really set us up, they managed to hold Wits off and it allowed us to play with ease up front.”
With Chiefs now through to the last eight of the Nedbank Cup and with five games to go in the Absa Premiership Shabba remains adamant that the Amakhosi are still fighting for silverware on two fronts.
“For us there is no such a thing as focusing on the Nedbank Cup and forgetting about the league, we have to win our last five league games and if we do it will put pressure on the other teams who could drop points and it will work out for us.
We play SuperSport next they will also be looking to lift themselves after the disappointment of being eliminated from the Nedbank Cup, they still fighting for a top eight finish. It will by no means be an easy match and we will fight for the three points just as we did when we played against Wits.”
