The Amakhosi left mid morning on Friday for Cape Town ahead of their MTN8 Semi-Final second leg against Ajax Cape Town on Saturday evening, at the Cape Town Stadium, and will be looking to return to Johannesburg having secured a place in the MTN8 Final.

The teams were goalless during the first leg clash in Johannesburg a week ago and the result would seem to favour the Amakhosi, who could progress to the finals should they win or the game end in a draw with goals.

A 1-1 score line would be sufficient to send Chiefs through to the final, Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic though will not head down to the fairest Cape looking for a stale mate and will instead have thoughts on putting up a good showing which they hope will culminate with a victory and secure their first appearance in the MTN8 Final for three years.

History

Saturday evening’s clash will be the eleventh Cup game to be contested between the sides, as it stands both teams have won four of these games with two ending in a draw. The Amakhosi will be playing Ajax for a fourth time in a Cup game in Cape Town when they face the Urban Warriors on Saturday evening, on their three previous visits Chiefs won one game and lost two.

Only once has Cup game between Chiefs and Ajax has ever gone to a penalty shoot-out, that was in an Absa Cup game in 2002 / 2003 with Ajax prevailing winning 5-4 on spot kicks. That game is one of only two Cup clashes contested by the teams to have ended with out any goals being scored, eight of their previous ten cup matches have produced a total of 22 goals with either team scoring 11 goals.

Current form

Ajax started the season in good nick winning their first competitive game which was their MTN8 Quarter-final fixture against SuperSport United, the Urban Warriors won that game 5-2 although they lost their opening two league fixtures. They did bounce back to win their third game of the new campaign, as they defeated their City rivals Santos in the Cape Derby on Wednesday evening.

The Amakhosi in the meantime have won four of their five competitive games of the new season, their goalless draw with Ajax is the only time this season in any competition that they have failed to score.

Chiefs won their most recent match a league encounter against BIDVest Wits on Wednesday, displaying good form the Amakhosi will be hoping to keep up their good run of results with a win Saturday evening.
