Addressing the a press conference at his teams base in Kimberley Tabarez who does not like the media speculating as to who will start the game, made two changes to his starting eleven from the one that defeated South Korea 2-1 in the round of 16 this past Saturday.
The first change a forced one sees Tabarez replace centre back Diego Godin who has been part of all of their games at the World Cup thus far for Mauricio Victorino, Godin pulled a muscle during the last 16 tie against Korea Republic.
The other change is a tactical switch with Universidad de Chile midfielder Alvaro Fernandez replacing FC Porto's Alvaro Pereira, Pereira was unimpressive during the win over Korea Republic.
Star man Diego Forlan will lead the attack against the ‘Black Stars’, along with Luis Suarez are expected to be the biggest threat to Ghana, who are the last remaining African team in the World Cup. The duo were instrumental in leading Uruguay to a 3-0 win over Bafana Bafana during the group stages of the competition.
With the South African neutral’s backing Ghana when they take on Uruguay it is hoped that the ‘home’ support will help spur the ‘Black Stars’ on to reaching the semi – finals, if they able to get to the final four they will be the first African team to do so.
Uruguay starting XI:
Muslera, Maxi Pereira, Lugano, Victorino, Fucile; Alvaro Fernández, Diego Pérez, Arévalo Ríos; Diego Forlán; Cavani and Luis Suárez.
