The Amakhosi mentor is confident that a turn- around in fortunes can come his teams way when they feature in the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
Vermezovic while reflecting on the events of the past week where Chiefs narrowly went down in the MTN8 Final to Pirates and lost a league clash by a single goal to Ajax Cape Town said.
“We lost the last two games but we must remember they were two tough games, against Ajax we played much better than in the MTN8 Final and hopefully in our next game we can do better than we have in the last two games.”
With Chiefs losing their previous two games Vermezovic does not think that fans expectations will be lowered going into the game, “ with this kind of logic we cannot approach such a big game.
Every game is a new game and before a Pirates game you do not need to make any special psychological preparation.
A derby is a big game and it is a game that players always want to play in. My hope is that our supporters will be more satisfied after Saturday’s game. “
For Vermezovic Saturday’s derby is also his tenth official game against Orlando Pirates, into his third season as Chiefs coach he divulged that he does enjoy derby games.
“Every derby you get to be part of part is as special as the first one.
The tension is always there before and during the derby, also teams are very focused for derby matches, the beauty of my job is that I get the chance to see my players in action in such games.”
While the Chiefs coach is pleased that he is undefeated in four previous league meetings against Pirates, he is looking to Saturday’s game towards ensuring that they win what will be their second league game with him in charge.
“It is nice to know that in the time I have been here we have not lost to Pirates, let’s put it into perspective we have won just one of those games. We want to make our record much better and also the past it behind and we have to use this opportunity to win the game and move forward.”
