Twice before has Vladimir Vermezovic lead the Amakhosi to the semi-final's of the MTN8 and on both occassions they were defeated, 2-1 last season on aggregate by Orlando Pirates and 4-3 also after two legs against Ajax Cape Town the season before, the Amakhosi mentor will be hoping to make it third time lucky and reach this year's MTN8 final.

For that to happen Chiefs will be need to put up a good showing against the Urban Warriors in the home leg of their MTN8 semi-final on Saturday evening at the FNB Stadium, Vermezovic is aware of the importance of Chiefs ending the first ninety minutes in a commanding position.

"This game is different to a league game, this cup competition is unique as it has its own rules" explained Vermezovic. Who went onto further add, "it is important that when you play at home you do not concede a goal and when you play away you must make sure you score.

"It is also crucial to understand that with such a game played over two legs nothing is over after the first ninety minutes. The end of Saturday's game will only be the halfway stage of the tie."

In the previous two MTN8 semi-finals Chiefs traveled away for the first legs this time around they are at home, Vermezovic does not believe that playing at home in the first leg will have any bearing on the overall outcome of the tie.

"Our philosophy is simple if we want to win our games than we must beat the best teams in the PSL, for us it makes no difference where we play because where ever we go we are fortunate enough to have a lot of support. "

Under Vermezovic's reign whenever the Amakhosi have come up against Ajax the games have generally been high scoring encounters, the Chiefs coach has an explanation for the fact that in the seven games that he has been around for when Chiefs have taken on Ajax has produced 18 goals (12 for Chiefs 6 for Ajax).

"Maybe their style and our style of play which is very offensive leads to most matches against them being high scoring ones, I hope their are more goals at FNB but in their net."

Chiefs had a number of players nursing illness and injury ahead of the game, Vermezovic is hopeful that they will be fit for the clash on Saturday.

"Itumeleng Khune took a knock during the game against Moroka Swallows but he is okay. Mthokozisi Yende and Thomas Sweswe missed the Swallows game as they had flu, they should recuperate sufficiently to be fit for the game."

Chiefs last outing against Ajax saw the Amakhosi record a 4-0 victory in the second last league game of last season over the Urban Warriors, Vermezovic holds the view that Ajax will not be out for revenge.

"This is a new Ajax team three of their key players, Hans Vonk, Thulani Serero and Sameehg Doutie have left, they have a new structure and have been consistent this season generally keeping the same team over their last three games. Their results in their opening two league fixtures may not have been good but Ajax nevertheless remains a dangerous team."

Vermezovic in concluding his discussion with kaizerchiefs.com added that he is hopeful that the Chiefs will continue making strides and improving as a collective as they have done over their previous matches this past campaign.

"In the last two seasons we were eliminated in the semi-finals in this Cup, so we will try to do our best to reach the final. Every game is an opportunity to improve and we will use this game to get better."
