Reneilwe Letsholonyane was on target for the Glamour Boys as they got their Absa Premiership second round to bright start.
The win was also a confidence booster ahead of the crucial encounter against SuperSport United on Wednesday night.
Chiefs are now on 25 points, 8 points adrift to SuperSport United.
“It was a tough game but we had prepared well for Santos. We knew they are quite a dangerous side when they go forward. They have one of the best coaches in the in league so we were aware of what we were up against,” Vermezovic told the media following the press conference.
“Credit should go to my players for sticking to the plan. The victory is a huge boost for us. We will be playing tough games between now and the game against Mamelodi Sundowns before Christmas break.
It is very important that we win games and coming to Port Elizabeth and return back to Johannesburg is fantastic for us,” continued Vladimir.
The Serbian also defended midfielder, Siphiwe Tshabalala who was replaced by Abia Nale at half time.
“I spoke to (Siphiwe) Tshabalala before the game, if he was ready to play. He told me that he was fine but then it was not the case.
Tshabalala like I said early this season is crucial both for the club and the country and we are going to do everything in our poor to help him reach top form,” he added.
