Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic pronounced himself satisfied with the progress made by his team over the past two seasons. He has now cast his eye over the past season and also spoke of his plans for the 2011-2012 season in a discussion with kaizerchiefs.com on Tuesday morning.

“It was an interesting season that we just came through” intoned Vermezovic before adding on while answering a question about his thoughts on the last campaign.

“We scored more goals this season than we did last season, we won more matches and also collected more points. People were speaking about our defense we had one the three best defenses in the league and we were in the top five on the offensive charts.”

Vermezovic is clear that Chiefs were from the outset aware of what they needed to achieve during the 2010 – 2011 season in order to please there many fans, “for Kaizer Chiefs the expectations are very high and from the beginning we knew that we had to win the league,”

“In the end we only lost by a single point and I do feel that we had a good season, if you look at our season in its entirety we put up more good performances than bad ones.”

According to Vermezovic this season has given them greater insight into how Chiefs can continue making progress the way they have since he assumed the helm at the Amakhosi at the start of the 2009-2010 season.

“We now have a philosophy of the way we play, we have introduced many young players and hopefully in the future they will be able to do the job for the team.”

Of the future Vermezovic is hoping to retain most of his current crop of players as he explained adding “I would like to say that I would like to keep all of my players, I am aware of the rules of economy, it is hard to keep your best players if a good offer comes if we have to let players go.”

When quizzed about strengthening his squad for next seasons he said, “we want to refresh the team in each department, so that we can strengthen the competition amongst the squad, we will again introduce some young players.”

The coach does have one wish for next season, “next term we will try to win all our games home and away, and we will try to do better against the small teams. If we look at this season we dropped ten points against in four games against Vasco Da Gama and Santos we need to avoid this in the future.”
