The Glamour Boys came back from Cape Town with a vital point against gutsy, Santos while log leaders, Orlando Pirates needed a last minute equaliser against AmaZulu on Sunday. The two teams come face to face this weekend in one of Africa’s biggest derbies.
“We have to go out and win games. We cannot expect other teams to win games for us,” said the Serbian.
“The most important thing for us is to prepare well like we did against Santos.
The players were fully focused on the game unlike the last time when we lost against them before the Soweto derby and then we lost a game against Vasco Da Gama just before the Telkom Knockout final,”
“I am happy that the players realise how important it is to focus and give their best in each game. We came here to win and we played our normal football. I think at the end of the day the draw is not a bad result,”
A former defender during his playing days, Vermezovic defended his defence once more after conceding another 2 goals against Santos, People like to criticize our defence but at times forget to give credit to where it’s due. Wana did well to beat our goalkeeper (Itumeleng Khune) in the first goal and we should give credit to him,” said Vermezovic speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Monday morning.
Vermezovic also defended Captain, Jimmy Tau who came under criticism from the media for being “cautious” on tackles as he is currently carrying two cautions. Another yellow card for Jimmy Tau who scored against Moroka Swallows last Wednesday would have seen him missing the game on Saturday.
“I spoke to Jimmy Tau on Saturday and he told me that he was ready to give his best for the team. He did score like he did against Moroka Swallows but I was satisfied with his contribution on Sunday,” added Vermezovic.
