The stadium management is committed to implementing the new International Safety and Security Standards at all of it's fixtures, including Sunday's Vodacom Challenge final.
The stadium safety and logistics staff have asked fans for their co-operation to ensure that the match does not inconvenience either spectators or local residents.
Crucial to this safety plan is the request that fans not in possession of a match ticket do not turn up at the stadium on Sunday afternoon, as this will only add to the congestion at the turnstiles, as well as congestion on the roads around the stadium.
The ABSA Stadium's Safety Officer, responsible for the Traffic Management Plan has urged locals to use alternate routes around the stadium for the two hours prior to the kick-off at 3:15pm.
Walter Gilbert Road ,between the Absa Stadium Durban and the soccer stadium, will be closed from 6pm on Saturday night to 7pm on Sunday evening.
Fans coming to the match in private vehicles are urged to approach the stadium from the NMR Avenue side, where parking is available in the adjacent soccer stadium. Unreserved parking is also available at the cycle track, the Stables area, the swimming pool, and the nearby Suncoast casino.
The Safety Officer has also urged fans to ensure that vehicles are parked in safe areas, and that all valuables are locked in the boot rather than being left visible inside the car.
To assist fans attending the big match, here is a list of prohibited and restricted items:
Prohibited items: (not applicable to State Security, Emergency Services and Metro Police) Firearms and ammunition, Knives, weapons or sharp metal objects, explosives, tear gas, mace or similar airborne chemical agents, narcotics unless prescribed.
Restricted items: Glass, cans, metal receptacles, hard or large cooler boxes, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, items which could cause a nuisance (e.g. lasers, radios without ear pieces, large camera flashes, etc.), Items which could cause injury (bicycles, skateboards, sharp pointed umbrellas), handouts which could cause a nuisance or injury, fireworks or flares, banners or flags with either vulgar, racist, sexist, discriminatory, inflammatory or offensive content, ambush marketing items, animals, any object which the Absa Stadium Durban, or their duly appointed officials may, in their discretion, deem to be dangerous, disruptive, offensive or likely to compromise safety and security at the stadium.
