Head Coach, Vladimir Vermezovic has thrown his weight behind his defence after the team conceded four goals in three games.

The Glamour Boys conceded two goals during the 2-all draw away to Celtic, on against Maritzburg United during the 3-1 last Saturday and Golden Arrows also managed to find the back of the net during the 2-1 win at Moses Mabhida on Wednesday night.

Vermezovic who also played as a defender during his time with Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade said that the criticism on Chiefs back four is not fair.

“I am not sure why people always single out the back four every time we concede a goal,” said Vermezovic speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Wednesday evening.

“In my team when we lose the ball, the strikers, midfielders have to join in and defend. It is not only the responsibility of the back four to defend. We have been very solid at the back this season except for one or two mistakes.”

I am satisfied with the way the defence have conducted the business this season. In football, of course, you always look at improving but I think our defence has been one of our strong departments.”

Vermezovic was also satisfied with the win against Golden Arrows although he felt the team was not as ‘aggressive’ as it was against Maritzburg United last Saturday.

“It is never easy to play a game every three days. You can see that it is taking a lot out of the players. Today we were not as aggressive as we were on Saturday.

I said last week, the most important thing is to stay in touch with the leaders and we were able to achieve that against a very good side in Arrows.

I am satisfied with the victory,” pointed out Vermezovic.
