Amakhosi coach Vladimir Vermezovic has professed himself happy with his teams’ winning start to the 2011-12 season, after they overcame Jomo Cosmos 2-1 in their opening Absa Premiership clash of the new campaign on Saturday evening.

Reacting to Chiefs win over Cosmos which was the Amakhosi’s first in a league game at home over Ezenkosi since 2003 and their overall perfect start to the season Vermezovic said “the first two games were very important for us. We did our job in the right way we went through the MTN8 semifinal with a win and we started the league with a win that is good enough us.”

Vermezovic also praised his charges for coming through what was a physically challenging encounter against Cosmos as he added, “we showed character against Wits in the MTN8 game and we did the same against Cosmos.

It was a serious game and also a very tough one which was at times very physical, that is the way they play and we respect that.”

The coach had further praise for Lehlohonolo Majoro who scored on his league debut for the Amakhosi when he grabbed the opening goal in the win over Cosmos, “I am happy for Majoro that he managed to score. He is a hard working guy and it’s good for him to have got off the mark.”

With game one of the league behind him Vermezovic is now looking towards match day two and Chiefs first Soweto derby of the season when they face their township rivals Moroka Swallows, who won their opening game of the campaign 3-1 against Santos at the Dobsonville on Wednesday evening.

“This is going to be another tough game” answered Vermezovic when asked his thoughts about Wednesday evening’s encounter before going on to add. “I did manage to see some of their recent games, they are a good team with good players and they have one of our former guys David Mathebula, we know him very well.”

Vermezovic though although aware of Swallows strengths does believe that the Amakhosi will manage to handle themselves well on the night, “they are a very dangerous team especially when they are on the offensive, we will do what need to in order to be well prepared for the game and work on ensuring that we do well out there.”

At a chilly training session on Monday morning Vermezovic had first choice goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune join the session, despite the net-minder leaving the clash against Cosmos in the first half with an injury.

Of Khune’s recovery from injury Vermezovic added, “I am always happy when all of my players are at training and preparing for our next match.”
