Head Coach, Vladimir Vermezovic paid tribute to his players following an emphatic win against Free State Stars at FNB Stadium, Soweto on Saturday evening.
The Amakhosi found themselves trailing to the visitors after only 13 minutes following a strike from Edward Manqele but goals from substitute, Sthembiso Ngcobo and a stunner from Lincoln Zvasiya ensured that the team in gold and black take three points home.
Vladimir Vermezovic first acknowledged the presence of young Themba Mokoena; “Themba I am delighted that you spent this day with us today and it is good that we won the game. We hope that this will lift your spirits further. We did this for you,” said the Serbian looking at Themba who had joined the post match press conference.
Going back to the game VV said; “I would like to congratulate my players for showing character this evening. It is never easy playing Free State Stars and when they scored first we knew that we were in for a tough game.
“I am pleased that at the end of the game we managed to win the game. It could have gone anywhere looking at the number of chances they created. I have always said that the league will be decided in the last five games of the season, but it is good that we win our games now and we are all happy we got three points here this evening.
‘VV’ was forced to shuffle his side following the unavailability of right back, Jimmy Tau; “We tried many combinations at training and we were going to play Lincoln (Zvasiya) but when we were forced to pull out Dominic Isaacs just two hours before the game we played Willard Katsande. I was pleased with his professionalism and he never put his foot wrong for the entire game.
“I also want to praise the spirit in the team. This team is united behind one goal this season to win the championship. It is going to be a long road and now we are going to Durban to meet AmaZulu in a potential tough game but we will be taking it one game at a time.
The game at FNB Stadium was the last home game for the Glamour Boys this year, 2011. Chiefs played their first game at FNB this year against Mamelodi Sundowns with Kaizer Motaung JNR scoring the only goal of the game so the win against Stars ensured that the team finished the way they started at FNB Stadium.
