Fernandes and his crew, which was made of Craig Forrest a former Canadian national team and Ipswich Town Goalkeeper, during their time at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena in Southern Johannesburg the crew interviewed players and members of the Chiefs technical staff.
Upon his return to Canada Fernandes aired the documentary he had done on The Amakhosi on his weekly soccer central show, which airs on a Saturday morning on Canadian television. As Canada is six hours behind England the show comes on during the break between English Premier League Games, which makes the slot prime time on a Saturday morning in Canada.
The documentary on Chiefs titled ‘The Beatles of soccer in South Africa’ likened the popularity of Chiefs in South Africa to the famous music band ‘The Beatles’, from Liverpool in England who with their sweet tunes took the world by storm in the 1960’s.
Like The Beatles the response to the documentary was such that the owners of the television station which employs Fernandes decided to put up the footage shot during his trip to South Africa on their website. In his communication with kaizerchiefs.com on Thursday Fernandes said “ the documentary we did about Kaizer Chiefs while we were out in South Africa got rave reviews from our viewers. Overall it was really well received by the Canadian public, so the owners of our station took the decision to put it up on our website”.
