Ivory Coast Kaizer Chiefs arrived and landed safely at Port Bouet Airport (Felix Houphouet Boigny Int'l) on the evening of Friday, 25 April 2014.
"We are here on a mission to play a game," these were the words from Football Manager Bobby Motaung upon the Team's arrival in Abidjan.
The Amakhosi were received by Mr Treasure Hlophe, the First Secretary Political South African Embassy, in Abidjan.
"We are happy to receive Kaizer Chiefs in Ivory Coast. It is our duty to welcome and make every South African feel at home away from home in Abidjan. We wish the team a happy stay here," said Hlophe.
Chiefs are in Abidjan to face ASEC Mimosas in the 2nd Leg of the Confederations Cup Playoffs. ASEC Mimosas go into the game with a 1-goal advantage following their 2 - 1 win in the 1st Leg played in South Africa last week.
The reception?
"We were well received by the embassy. The hosting Club and Association didn't show up as a norm but reception was a warm one from the Embassy's side. We know what we are up to, we can't complain but focus on the mission of playing football," said Motaung.
The facilities?
"The hotel facilities are bellow par. We hoped for the regulations of CAF to be applied. We have a prepared programme to follow leading to the game on Sunday. Unfortunately our plans are hampered as we learned that we will not be allowed to use the training facilities this afternoon. How do you call this Fair Play with all this unfair tactics," commented Motaung.
Defender Lorenzo Gordinho will be hoping for a birthday gift when his side take to the pitch of Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Sunday. Gordinho turned 20 on Saturday, 26 April 2014.
Happy birthday Gordinho!
"I'm happy to spend my birthday with the Team. I am with my family always when I am with the Team. We are enjoying the place so far and looking forward to the game on Sunday",
The game?
"We are ready to play on Sunday. To us the 1st Leg was a 1st half in this game and we will compete on Sunday," said Gordinho with a supreme confidence.
Motaung emphasized that his Team came here well aware of what to expect and they will not complain but will focus on the game.
Kickoff for the game is at 15:30 local time and 17:30 South African Freedom Day time.
