“We have come here to wish Kaizer Chiefs well for their Telkom Knockout quarterfinal against Free State Stars,” said Western Province/Stormers and Springbok rugby star Siya Kolisi who visited the Village, Amakhosi’s headquarters, on Friday afternoon.
The tall rugby union player has been a devout Chiefs supporter from a young age. “My whole family are Amakhosi,” he comments.
Kolisi, who is presently recovering from an ankle injury, came to the Village with a good friend, Brian Skosana, who recently featured for Eastern Province Kings and SWD Eagles. The two were joined by former Kaizer Chiefs Rugby 7s star, Sinovuyo Ganto, who is presently with the Free State Cheetahs.
The rugby players were shown around the Village and they also got the opportunity to watch the Amakhosi squad train.
“Wow, what a shot,” Skosana reacted when Bernard Parker put the ball behind Itumeleng Khune with an absolute scorcher.
After training, they mixed with the Chiefs players. “Guys, go for it on Sunday,” Kolisi told the squad.
“This is a memory that will last forever,” Koliso reflected on the visit. “We will certainly be watching Chiefs’ Telkom Knockout game against Free State Stars.”
The Telkom Knockout quarterfinal between Amakhosi and Ea Lla Koto will take place at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium (kick-off is at 15:00).
