Kaizer Chiefs will use the friendly game against Chippa United in Port Elizabeth where the team has been on camp this week to prepare for the upcoming season. The game is scheduled to take place at the ‘Windy City’, Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday, 20 July 2014. The game is dubbed the ‘Welcome Home’ friendly game as Chippa United will be announcing PE as their home base for the upcoming season.
Coach Stuart Baxter had this to say about the game.
Playing against Chippa in a friendly, how are you going to approach the game?
“It is part of our preseason exercises. We are here in PE for camp and so far so good. Our preparations are going well. We have played a few practice matches thus far and the friendly game against Chippa is another training opportunity. We will use the game to load the players physically and tactically. We will also be experimenting on a variety of activities,” he said.
What is the significance of this friendly game in your plans?
“It is very important at this stage to sample our approach to the season. It is an opportunity for us to collect the information about the individual players and the Team at this stage and a game like this will help us. We will be able to do adjustments during the game as this is not a knockout and there is no 3-points at stake. At this stage of our preparation even the negative info will help us going forward,” he said.
Coach Baxter confirmed that his side will make the maximum allowed substitutions during the game. He will be using the game to look at all the players. Baxter also updated us on the progress that Parker is making so far. “Parker is out of the boot and walking without assist. He is promising and determined to make a return. But we are taking it each day at a time,” he said.
Tickets for the game are sold at Computicket and at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium ticket office, for R40 adults and R20 for kids. Kickoff for the game is at 15:00 and the game will be televised LIVE on SS4.
