The U17 team were back on winning ways this past weekend, defeating Balfour Park 2-1 at Shaft 17 on Saturday.
“The win against Balfour was a boost for the boys ahead of the Gauteng Future Tournament starting on Monday. Preparations started as back as January and we will be ready to take on Esperance and company,” said Doctor Khumalo who together with Terror Sephoa will be guiding the team during the tournament.
Monday, 23 March will see the kick off for the Gauteng Future Champions at SAFA Soweto Development Centre. The young Chiefs have been grouped in Group B with SC Corinthians (Brazil), Joburg Select (RSA) and Esperance of Tunisia.
“The boys have done really well since the beginning of the year. We have won two games and drawn one since the start of the season. This tournament will give us an opportunity to test how far our boys have come. The emphasis here is not on results,” said the legendary, Doctor Khumalo.
“Playing teams from Africa and South America can only add value to the work we are doing in the development and it will prepare us for the season ahead,” added Khumalo.
