“We enter this tournament as the defending champions,” states Kazer Chiefs legend and the Development coordinator Ryder Mofokeng following the Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge launch event, held on Wednesday 12th of November at the Nike Football Training Centre in Klipspruit.
Kaizer Chiefs Development will be looking at defending their title when they do battle for the Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge taking place from the 1st to the 29th of December 2014.
The Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge, held in memory and honour of the late liberation struggle icon Walter Sisulu, is aimed at increasing awareness around living a healthy active lifestyle among young South Africans. The games will be played at the Nike Football Training Centre.
Chiefs were seeded in Group 3 comprising of seven teams. Mofokeng comments, “We do not know much about the opponents. They are a closed book to us. Coach Ace Khuse will devise the plan in order for us to go through to the finals.”
This is one of the tournaments where Hendrick Ekstein, Zitha Macheke and Chris Matombo displayed their talents. The trio went on to earn a promotion to the senior team this season. Ekstein was the recipient of the Man of the Match award when Chiefs won the 11th edition of the tournament.
