We are thinking about the future – Zwane

On a depleted Chiefs squad’s preparation for their final game of the season:

Everyone is switched on and looks focused. They’re looking forward to the game. We’re obviously trying to get the combinations right. It’s the last game of the season, but we’re still looking for combinations because of the injuries we have. Some of the players are not available due to sickness, but those selected to start tomorrow look sharp. We are hoping we will be able to get the maximum points. The fact that we are playing at home should be a plus for us, we will take that advantage.

On what to expect from a Swallows side fighting to stave off relegation:

We are playing against wounded tigers, a team that is fighting for everything. They need all the points in the bag, so they will surely bring their ‘A’ game tomorrow. We are equal to the task. We will be ready for them and we will also take the game to them, because we also want maximum points.

On whether he will use the game to prepare for next season:

As much as we are playing these games, we are also thinking about next season and how we can help some of the players regain their confidence and also look at our structure and understand our principles of attacking and defending. So far so good. In the past games we were playing in patches, but you could see the signs of good things to come in the future.

On a few young faces that could feature against Swallows:

We’ve brought in a few youngsters like Keletso Sifama and Mduduzi Shabalala from our DDC team to come and help us this side, because we have a lot of players who are not available for this game. We are hoping we will be able to give them a run because we are thinking about the future now more than anything else. We are looking forward to the game and we desperately want to give them the opportunity to showcase their talents and express themselves. They are special, good players, the kind of players that can play for a team of Kaizer Chiefs calibre, so we really want to help them settle in quickly with the hope that they will enjoy themselves. Because football is a game of enjoyment, if you don’t enjoy what you are doing and playing for a team like Kaizer Chiefs, then it becomes a problem. We want them to be more relaxed, but when they have the ball, they must express themselves within our structure. It’s a big one for them, for the fact that it’s our last game of the season and we also want to finish on a high and prepare the team for next season as well. We will go out there and give it our best shot.

On facing Swallows and the magnitude of the game for both sides:

They are a very good team. Sometimes football is a bit unfair, because when you look at them, I don’t think they deserve to be languishing on the bottom of the log. It’s one of those things, where they find themselves in that situation. They still have hopes if they grind results tomorrow, they can at least go to the playoffs. They pose a lot of danger when they’re like that, they will be playing for their lives, for their families and their careers as well. We have no doubt we are playing against a team that will come out guns blazing. They’ve got a good team; they were just unfortunate in some games where we watched them. When we analysed them, we realized they were just unfortunate not to win games. They got punished because of mistakes they made; those mistakes were very critical in putting them in the position they find themselves right now.

On Chiefs’ own aspirations:

We will also bring our A-game and push everyone to the limit. We want to finish on a high note and we are hoping we will get maximum points to see how far we can go and where we end up on the log because it’s key for us to win tomorrow, so that come end of the season, anything can happen. Let’s focus on ourselves, we need to make sure we grind results on Saturday.
