“We brought a competitive squad to meet the objective of the match,” says Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela when his side touched down at Bloemfontein’s Bram Fischer Airport ahead of the Macufe Cup.

“This is a big event for the fans, but, for us, it is also an opportunity to work on different aspects of our game.”

Sunday afternoon’s Sparta Macufe Cup match between Bloemfontein Celtic and Amakhosi comes at the end of the week-long Macufe Arts and Culture festivities taking place in Bloemfontein.

“We will field a team that will represent the badge,” stresses Komphela. “We brought players like Morgan Gould, who is getting back in the saddle after having been out for long due to injury.”

Komphela hints at George Maluleka, the scorer of a late beauty in Chiefs’ 3-0 demolishing job of Platinum Stars, to marshal the midfield.

“Bongani Ndulula is also in the squad,” confirms Komphela. The lanky striker has been selected for Bafana Bafana squad to play Angola in a qualifier for the 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan) next week.

The Macufe Cup clash will take place at the Free State Stadium in front of an expected full capacity crowd. Kick-off is at 15:00.
